Instructors

At The Mid-Ohio School, our instructors are at the top of the industry. Your teen will learn from a team of personable, accomplished professional race car drivers who use their skills and experience driving cars at their limits to teach safe-driving techniques for the streets. Our instructors have a combined 250 years of experience and have graduated over 12,500 teenage alumni. The Mid-Ohio School is one of three driving schools of its type in the nation to make it into the AAA Approved Driving School Network.

Hometown: Brownsburg, Indiana
Coming from the storied racing family, Adam Andretti began competing at the of 15. Since then, he’s been behind the wheel of a number of cars, running in series such as the US Formula 3 Championship, Firestone Indy Lights, World Challenge and SCCA Pro Racing. Andretti has been an instructor for 12 years, five of which have been at The Mid-Ohio School.
Hometown: Clovis, California
Jim Bishop has been providing top notch instruction to drivers of many ages for about 25 years. He has experience driving all sorts of vehicles including go karts, formula car and stock cars and won a NASA championship in 2008 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Bishop has been a racing coach for the Grand Prix of Long Beach celebrity race for several years, working with stars such as Patrick Dempsey, Cameron Diaz and Queen Latifah. When he isn’t hobnobbing with celebrities, the Chief Instructor for the California Region SCCA spends his time at The Mid-Ohio School, instructing there since 2004.
Hometown: Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland
From 1980 through 1982, Tommy Byrne won six major championships including titles in British Formula Three and the Marlboro World Cup. He also made five starts in Formula One in 1982 for the Theodore Team. Over the next several years, he competed in the CART American Racing Serie (currently known as Firestone Indy Lights), winning a dozen races before retiring from full time racing in 1992. Since then, he’s been a regular instructor at The Mid-Ohio School. He has co-authored an award-winning book entitled Crashed and Byrned: The Greatest Racing Driver You Never Saw.
Hometown: Brownsburg, Indiana
Son of former IndyCar and Indianapolis 500 driver Pancho Carter, Cole Carter currently competes in the midget racing classes of USAC National and NEMA. He has 27 wins, nearly 60 Top Fives and over 125 Top Tens in his career. The Indiana-born Carter is in his second season at The Mid-Ohio School, but has instructed elsewhere for the better part of a decade.
Hometown: Shelby, Ohio
A former Honda of America Racing Team factory driver, The Mid-Ohio School’s General Manager and Lead Instructor Dave Roush has been competing at his home track (Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course) for over a decade in various series. A 2001 SCCA Runoffs Champion with five Top Five finishes in the Rolex Series and 30 SCCA National wins, Roush uses his on-track experience in the classroom with all types of drivers. He has been at The Mid-Ohio School for eight years.
Hometown: Lewis Center, Ohio
Though many recognize him as a sports car commentator and pit reporter for the SPEED Channel, Brian Till has quite the impressive racing dossier. His driving record boasts a Champ Car Atlantic Championship, time in Firestone Indy Lights, and 20 starts in CART, including entry in the 1994 Indianapolis 500. Till has been at The Mid-Ohio School since 1993, sharing his expertise with new drivers and veteran racers alike.
